A Lubbock soldier has become one of the latest casualties in the rebuilding of Iraq.
25-year-old Army Specialist Israel Garza was killed Sunday. According to relatives, his convoy was ambushed, possibly during a local protest that turned violent. Garza last visited his family in Lubbock just over a month ago. He had only been in Iraq for three weeks before the ambush.
Garza leaves behind a wife and three small children.
