Lubbock teenager killed in motorcycle accident

Posted: Updated:

A Lubbock teenager was killed in a motorcycle accident Friday afternoon in Gray County.

According to DPS in Pampa, the accident happened around 3:30 Friday afternoon.  Investigators say 15-year-old Donald Waldenmayer, III was riding a motorcycle on Interstate 40 east of Amarillo, near the town of Alanreed, when he attempted to pass a semi-truck.  The driver of the semi did not see Waldenmayer, and began to veer into his lane.  That caused Waldenmayer to crash into the guard rail.  The semi truck also crashed into the guard rail and rolled over the side.

Waldenmayer, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the semi and another passenger were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Investigators say the couple were from Arkansas.

Family members say Waldenmayer, who went by Donnie, was riding alongside his father when the accident happened.  His father was not hurt.  The pair were headed back to Lubbock from a recent road trip.  Family members say Waldenmayer was a student at Frenship High School.
