The 7th annual Burthart Walk for Autism
Awareness drew quite a crowd Sunday.
Texas Tech University's Burkhart Center for
Autism Education and Research hosts the event each year to raise funds for the
autism spectrum disorders. The walk also helped the community celebrate
those who live with the disorder, in addition to the families who support
them.
TTU Burkhart Center for Autism Director, Janice Magnessy, says,
"We're trying to educate the public, teachers, and employers about autism to how
people with autism are basically just like everyone else. They are fun, friendly,
employable people that want to members of the community."
Participants said walking for a good cause
was a great way to celebrate Earth Day.
