Expecting a baby? Go ahead and grab another chocolate Easter egg, your baby may be sweeter because of it. A study followed 300 pregnant women; half got a little chocolate every day, half didn't.
Researchers found the babies of the daily chocolate eaters smiled and laughed more and were more likely to be calmer than the babies whose mothers did not indulge during pregnancy. Researchers call it "the chocolate baby behavior effect" and theorize that it may be caused by mood altering chemicals in the candy that are passed to the baby in the womb. But they stress this study is in its infancy so it's too early to prescribe daily chocolate for the mother-to-be.
The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Helsinki Schools of Medicine and is published in the Journal of Human Development.
