A new tree is now growing in Central Lubbock. A Lace-Bark tree, to be exact.
And it's all thanks to the Trees Across Texas Program put on by Parks and Recreation.
The program encourages each city in Texas to plant a tree that naturally grows in the habitat of the partner city.
The lace-bark tree came from Grapevine, which is in the Dallas area.
It was planted Friday morning at the Quest Memorial Grove in the Buddy Holly Recreation area.
The Trees Across Texas program was created in 2000 by former long-time councilman T. J. Patterson and Dr. A. E. "Gene" Quest.
