Doctor Jane Scott has been delivering babies in Texas for over 20 years, but 4-day-old Dylan is one delivery she'll never forget. Dr. Scott laughs as she calls his delivery "Way to cool."
Local Doctor to Deliver 3,000th Baby
It's not every doctor who can say they've helped bring 3,000 new lives into this world but one local doctor soon will be able to claim just that. UMC's Doctor Jane Scott is on the verge of a medical milestone.
About a month ago, we caught up with Dr. Scott as she approached her 3,000th delivery. We also found a very pregnant Miranda Simmons. Dr. Scott delivered Miranda's first two boys, Ryan and Ethan, and Miranda was determined her next bun in the oven would mark a milestone. She said to NewsChannel 11, "We've gotta go to the due date because I've gotta make 3,000th."
A busy month of deliveries meant that dream was fading for Miranda. She says, "Two weeks of early labor and we did not think we'd make it. I think everybody had given up hope." But Dylan Jay Simmons had other plans. He held off a little longer than threatened and was born Thursday, April 15th.
They knew he was close, if not exactly, Dr. Scott's 3,000 baby. Miranda says, "It was pretty exciting to know we had probably made it. I didn't really care at the time, but there was a part of me that was like 'Yes, we did it." Dr. Scott recalls, "I knew we were getting close. That next morning when we started adding up stuff I was like 'Oh my goodness she was.' I couldn't believe it."
Now, Dr. Scott and the Simmons family are undeniably linked in more than one special way.. actually Dylan makes it three. Miranda says, "This time I actually got to hug her. The nurses got out of the way and she hugged all three of us and just to feel that connection with your doctor... she's got the biggest heart in the world." Dr. Scott says, "I've taken care of her for several years and now the whole family and her mom. That gives you a special feeling that brings the full circle of life into play."
After the delivery, Dr. Scott asked Miranda if she wanted to shoot for the next milestone of 4,000. Miranda tells us though, this is it for her and her husband Mitch, three boys apparently are enough.
