LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Two people are in custody after they led authorities on a high speed chase through Lubbock Tuesday.

Lubbock Police Sgt. Frank Picon says an officer spotted a stolen vehicle at 21st and Ave C around 11 a.m. A male was driving with a female in the passenger side. Picon says the officer tried to initiate a traffic stop. That's when the suspects drove off.

Authorities chased the white sedan north on I-27 to the FM 1294 exit near Shallowater. About 15 minutes later, the vehicle's front right tire shredded and stopped at CR 2000.

LPD took the male and female into custody. The suspects are Johnny Vasquez, 35 and Rebecca Canales, 23. The passenger, Canales, was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant. Vasquez is charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and Evading Arrest.

Police are investigating several purses found in the vehicle.
