Slaton Man Under Watch After Wife Found Beaten

A Slaton man is on a 24-hour watch at Covenant Medical Center after allegedly assaulting his wife, and then driving his car off a cliff.

It all started around 10 p.m. Tuesday night in Slaton. That's where Slaton Police say 36-year-old Eddie Carmargo beat his wife with a baseball bat. They later found her on the porch, bound and gagged with her head bleeding.

Carmargo then drove to Ransom Canyon. Lubbock County Sheriff's Deputies saw Carmargo as he plowed into a guardrail and drove his car off a cliff and tumbled one-hundred feet below. Rescue crews used a rope to pull Carmargo to safety.

Carmargo is now charged with Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon. His wife, 31-year-old Melissa Carmargo, was treated and released from University Medical Center.
