Rawlings Community Center to host first Cinco de Mayo fest

Rawlings Community Center will be hosting their first Cinco de Mayo Celebration and Tamale Festival on Saturday, May 5, 2012, from 1:00-8:00 p.m.  Celebrate the day with music, kids' carnival games, contests, prizes, entertainment, refreshments, and of course, tamales!  Contests include Best Tamale Contest, Chihuahua Dog Show (All dogs must have proof of current vaccinations and remain on leash at all times.), and Selena look-alike Contests. Cost for all of the contests is $1 per entry.  At end the day, a Family Dance Celebration will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and is open to all ages from youth to seniors!

This event is for the entire family with something for everyone, and admission is free.  The schedule of events is as follows:

1:00 p.m.                     Opening Ceremony

1:15-5:00 p.m.             Kids Carnival Games and Activities

1:15 p.m.                     Best Tamale Contest Judging (Entries due by 12:45 p.m.)

2:00 p.m.                     Best Chihuahua Dog Show (Entries due by 1:45 p.m.)

Prizes will be awarded for Best Tail Waggin', Most Obedient, Smallest, Best Trick and Most Original Costume!

3:00-5:00 p.m.             Selena Look-A-Like Contest (Entries due by 2:45 p.m.)

                                    3:00 p.m. Ages 6-12

                                    3:30 p.m. Ages 13-17

                                    4:00 p.m. Ages 18-49

                                    4:30 p.m. Ages 50 and up

6:00-8:00 p.m.             Family Dance Celebration

Rawlings Community Center is located at 213 40th Street (40th Street and Avenue B).  Their regular operating hours are Monday - Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Fridays 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  For more information, call 806-767-2704.
