After months of debate, the City Council has passed a water ordinance for the City of Lubbock. The new ordinance puts restrictions on both residential and commercial lawn watering. Violators face a maximum fine of $500.
Here's how the water ordinance will effect you. You can not water your lawn between the hours of 10 a.m. through 6 p.m., during daylight savings time. The only exception is when you're watering by hand with a hose.
Commercial lawns must pass a sprinkler installation test. All sprinkler systems installed after May 1st must have a freeze sensor, rain gauge and separate water meter.
The new ordinance goes into effect in two weeks.
