Texas Lawmakers Battle School Finance In Austin - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

State lawmakers returned to Austin Tuesday to continue working on school finance.

One plan under consideration by the State House would increase the sales tax. Speaker of the House Tom Craddick said the measure would also broaden the tax base, impose a payroll tax on businesses, a tax on cigarettes and a tax on video gambling at horse and dog tracks.

A House Committee began examining the plan Tuesday, with a vote on the house floor possible next week.
