LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Chancellor Kent Hance says Texas Tech is doing well and that means more jobs and opportunities for Lubbock.

Hance gave his State of the University address on Wednesday.

He said Texas Tech is on track to reach its goal to have 40,000 students by the year 2020.

During the "State of the TTU System" luncheon, Hance said the school has more than 32,000 students right now, and is hoping to have close to 34,000 by this September.

The chancellor said this growth is important.

"Every time that we have additional people that we bring in, additional students, we have to hire additional faculty - additional administrators. So it provides jobs, good jobs, for Lubbock and this area," Hance said.

Texas Tech says they are also trying to keep more graduates in Lubbock through commercialization of research at the school.
