A legend at the medical school was honored today in a special reception at Texas Tech. From the very first class of 40 medical students at Drane Hall to the 160 enrolled now at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, Dr. Bernell Dalley has taught them all, which is more than 30,000 medical students in his 35 years as an instructor of Cell Biology and Anatomy.
Today, he said his retirement is bittersweet. "One of the wonderful benefits of sticking around so long is the fact that I've seen the children of my former student. And each year, there's an increased number come to medical school, and that's a real treat."
Dr. Steven Berk, Dean of the School of Medicine, said today that Dr. Dalley leaves a wonderful legacy for the institution with an endowed chair in his name.
