House Bill Puts TAKS Test on the Chopping Block

State lawmakers are still considering what to do about school finance.

In the bill approved by the House earlier this week, the TAKS test would be eliminated for high school students and replaced with another series of tests that students would be required to pass before graduation.

The bill would also ban the use of state money for public school construction not related primarily to instruction - such as football stadiums, or administration buildings.

The proposed school finance bill is now in the hands of the Texas Senate.
