LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
The loss of one vote is now forcing a run-off election in the Mayor's race in Levelland.
City attorney Richard Husen confirmed on Thursday that a voter registration error disqualified one of the provisional ballots. A provisional ballot is used when there is a question about a voter's eligibility.
Waymon Jackson would have been the city's next mayor, but the error now takes away his majority of the vote. He was running against incumbent Bo Bowman and Jeff Hemphill.
When asked what the problem was, Husen told us that all voters must register 30 days prior to the election. One voter who used a provisional ballot had not registered in time.
The run-off is scheduled for Saturday, June 16th.
Waymon Jackson says he will call for a recount.
