Smoke smell overwhelms fire dept with false alarms

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The smell of smoke has people all over Lubbock calling 911. The Lubbock Fire Department has been overwhelmed with calls.

The calls started around 4:30 p.m. The source of the smell is a wildfire in New Mexico, according to Robert Loveless with the Fire Marshal's office.

He asks, please do not call 911 unless you see a specific source of smoke.
