From Lubbock Police Department:
In recognition of National Missing Children's Day, the Lubbock Police
Department will host a community event Friday, May 25th at the South
Plains Mall. The event will be held in the east parking lot of the mall near
Slide Road and Olive Garden, from 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM.
LPD officers will be available to discuss child safety and provide information
to parents on ways to talk with their children about safety. Fingerprint kits
and child safety ideas will be available for parents and there will be fun
stuff for the kids.
LPD motorcycle officers, K-9 officers, and Mounted Patrol will also be
stopping by throughout the day.
Since 1983, our nation has observed May 25th as National Missing
Children's Day. First proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan and observed
by every administration since, May 25th is the anniversary of the day in
1979 when 6-year-old Etan Patz disappeared from a New York street corner
on his way to school. This day serves as a reminder to the nation to make
child safety a national priority.
We invite everyone in the Lubbock area to join us at this event. Spend a
few minutes meeting and visiting with the officers who serve in your
community and most importantly, learn how to help make our children
safer.
