A 41-year-old woman claiming to be the Sheriff of Lubbock is behind bars for assaulting an officer.
According to an arrest affidavit, on May 20 Tammie Stansbury came into contact with employees at US Recycling in Sidney, Nebraska. Employees explained the business was closed and that she needed to leave.
Documents say Stansbury started to yell, saying "he is the Sheriff, here, and that she is the sworn-in Sheriff of Lubbock, Texas".
Sidney Police officers were dispatched to the business. Sgt. Joe Rieken says Stansbury told him she was trying to get a cold pop because she was diabetic. According to the report, Stansbury began yelling for her mom and dad and became uncooperative with the officer.
Sgt. Rieken placed handcuffs on Stansbury and told her she was under arrest for trespassing and disturbing the peace. Documents say the female continued to yell and told officers to leave her alone. As Rieken began letting Stansbury up, reports say, she kicked the officer in his lower calf and genitals.
According to the affidavit, when she was being transported to Cheyenne County Jail, Stansbury began yelling to the officer "her dad and brother were going to kill [the officer] and kick [his] face off." Stansbury then spit on the officer several times.
Stansbury is charged with one felony and three misdemeanors: assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, trespassing and disturbing the peace.
