LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
Lubbock Christian University has long been a power in NAIA but KCBD NewsChannel 11 Sports has learned the school has filed a 348
page application document to join NCAA Division 2 Athletics.
The
school also submitted a video to showcase their top notch facilities
from the Rip Griffin Center to Hays Field to Plains Capital Park.
LCU is being endorsed by the Heartland Conference in NCAA Division 2.
Last
year, Sooner Athletic Conference members Southern Nazarene, NW Okla State and Oklahoma Christian all applied to join NCAA Division
2 and only Southern Nazarene was accepted.
Oklahoma Christian will resubmit an application and Rogers State is expected to
put in an application this time as well. Both are
also endorsed by the HeartlandConference.
LCU will find out in July if they've gained acceptance into NCAA Division 2. If they do there will be a 2-year transition period
from NAIA to playing in limbo then getting into NCAA Division 2.
