Lubbock Man Leads Police On Chase Thursday Night

A Lubbock man remains behind bars following a police chase across the city Thursday night.

It began around 11:40 Thursday night when officers spotted a suspicious vehicle leaving an area known for high drug traffic. When they attempted to pull him over, the driver took off. During the course of the chase, officers observed the suspect tossing something out the window.

The pursuit ended at 34th and Avenue U, after police cornered him with their vehicles. Police then observed the man swallowing a bag with a white substance inside. Charles Knighten was placed under arrest for driving with a suspended license. He was then taken to UMC to recover the evidence that he swallowed.

Knighten was later released, and taken to the Lubbock County Jail. He now faces charges of evading arrest and tampering with evidence.
