Despite the psychological and cosmetic benefits, most women do not choose to have breast reconstruction immediately after a mastectomy to remove the breast in treating breast cancer. It is an option that most would agree it seems more convenient, but in a study of more than 100,000 insured women with breast cancer, the numbers show that although immediate reconstruction has increased, yet it's still relatively low. Dr. Candy Arentz, a breast surgical oncologist, joins us today to explain what women with breast cancer should know about mastectomy and reconstruction.
