Two days ago, the Center For Science in the Public Interest said it's petitioning the FDA to ban trans fats, the stuff that clogs our arteries.
On Thursday, McDonald's announced that it's already making the effort. Actually, the company that supplies McDonald's frozen fries says it has removed the artery clogging trans fats from a new line of fries, and they say the new version has the same taste and crispiness of traditional fries.
Trans fats are used to give a product longer shelf life, but they're more harmful to the heart than other forms of fat. Of course, you can still get the fat fries if you like. It'll be your choice when the new version becomes available.
