West Texas care packages on their way to help troops overseas

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Troops overseas will soon receive a nice gift from a South Plains Anheuser-Busch distributor.

Teams from all across West Texas including Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, and Lubbock helped raise money to make the care packages.

Together they raised $5,000 dollars.

The Lubbock team purchased more than 3,200 food items and shipped their packages out Friday.

Corporate Social Responsibility Director Retha Fortenberry said, "The military guys have some pretty specific suggestions for the food that they receive. They want things that aren't gonna melt over there, so we purchased a lot of things that will last for a long time: granola bars, beef jerky, mac and cheese cups..."

Their donation will be sent overseas to Camp Leatherneck, a U.S. Marine base in Afghanistan.
