LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Texas Tech Athletics Director Kirby Hocutt said he was 'excited' about the University Presidents Oversight Committee approving a four-team playoff starting in the 2013-14 NCAA Football season.
"The sport has neven been more popular, it's a great step forward," said the Red Raider AD over the phone Wednesday. "I'm very pleased with the outcome...and at the same time, protect the best regular season in all of sports; as well as be able to protect a bowl system that I believe is very vital."
While nearly all college football fans agree a playoff is needed, the disagreement comes in regards to the number of, and, teams considered for a four-team bracket. Hocutt says he believes a similar system of determining those four teams is already in place - just in a different sport.
"I do believe the NCAA Basketball Selection Committee, in process, provides a starting point for us," said Hocutt. "[We need to] make sure we take the appropriate time over the next 12-18months to make sure we get the selection process right."
