Lubbock's new city council has put a couple of meetings
under its belt, and so far the news is good.
Two big decision stand out as citizen-friendly. First, city
council unanimously denied Atmos Energy the chance to raise rates on all
customers.
And even though the Railroad Commission will probably
overturn their decision, Council members sided with the citizens and did the
right thing.
Second, Council members have now moved their public meetings
from mornings to evenings, giving more people a chance to attend and speak
their mind about City business.
Consider this:
Now that the stage is set to allow more citizen
participation in Council meetings, there is no reason for us not to be more
engaged.
Lubbock City Council makes major decisions about all of our
lives. So if you want to make a case for how you think those decision should
go, evening meetings have made that easier.
Meeting times are posted on the City website. If you
want your voice to be heard on more than just election day, sign up, show up
and speak up.
