Recently it was disclosed that the reason behind the medical leave for Congressman Jesse Jackson junior is a mood disorder. So what does that mean exactly mood is not really a big enough word to describe how debilitating this disorder is.
Dr. Angelos Halaris, "A mood disorder is more serious, because to a great or lesser degree becomes dysfunctional." "If stress literally piles up then all of that can lead to a major episode of a mood disorder."
Mood disorders include chronic unhappiness called Dysthymic Disorder, also major depression and bipolar disorder. It is usually treated with medication and therapy, which can take weeks, months, or longer. Stress can be a huge trigger.
I mentioned Congressman Jackson earlier. He has been under investigation by a house ethics committee over the senate seat scandal that sent former Governor Rod Blagojevich to prison. His office has released a statement that Jackson is responding positively to treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
