Can you spell "onomatopoeia?" What about "quandry?"

These are just some of the words contestants are spelling in round one of the National Spelling Bee Competition in Washington D.C.

Rachel A. Wilson is representing the South Plains at the competition. The 14-year-old is an eighth grader at Borden County Junior High in Gail, just East of Lamesa. Rachel is one of 265 spellers competing for the $12,000 prize.
