Denver City is mostly known for one thing, oil. It is the main money source and employer of people in the area, but in 1960 they had something else to hang their hat on.
The Denver City High Mustangs won the state football championship that year. They went 15-0 and along the way defeated some teams by scores of 90-0.
Jimmy Don, now a curator for the Denver City Museum, was the trainer on that team and is still filled with pride when discussing his Mustangs.
"I was fortunate enough to be on that state winning team, and it was fun to watch. We were something special."
The team just had their 50 year anniversary in 2010 and hope always lives of the Mustangs winning another title someday.
