Idalou Police: “Attempted Capital Murder” caught on video

IDALOU, TX (KCBD) -

A dash cam video depicts a shocking moment that the Idalou Police Chief describes as "Attempted Capital Murder."  For now, the charges against James Christopher Guilbeau, 27, of Plano include tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance, and evading arrest.

The current charges are based in Lubbock County where a police chase started. Chief Albert Garcia says he plans to present more charges in Crosby County where the chase ended in a crash.

Garcia says one of his officers tried to make a routine traffic stop in the early morning hours of Tuesday. Guilbeau took off - leading the officer all the way to Ralls. It was there that the video shows Gilbeau's passenger car veer into the oncoming lane of traffic to hit another passenger car head-on.

Aside from Gilbeau and the police, there was only one other car on the road, and Chief Garcia says Gilbeau "appears" to have made it his target.

The video shows the collision, pieces of metal flying through the air like shrapnel and Gilbeau's car being lifted off the ground by the power of the impact.

As of Wednesday, Gilbeau's passenger is in satisfactory condition. The Chief says she might be a kidnapping victim.

The driver of the other vehicle was in critical condition Wednesday.
