A South Plains teen spelled her second round word correctly, but that wasn't enough to advance to round three.
Rachel Wilson, an eighth grader at Borden County Junior High in Gail, represented the South Plains at the 77th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee. Even though Rachel made it through round two, contest officials say she did not score high enough during the round one written test to advance.
The spelling bee will crown its winner Thursday in Washington, D.C.
