Lubbock Youth to Bring Theater to City Parks

Children's Theater in the Park Begins Wednesday

With Lubbock's youngest theater goers in mind, CATS Theater and Lubbock Parks and Recreation are bringing the excitement of live theater to the great outdoors with the performance of "Snow White and the Wicked Queen" in city parks this summer.  Performances begin on Wednesday, June 2, at 2:00 p.m. in Mae Simmons Park located on East 23rd Street and Oak Avenue. Kids of all ages will enjoy this classic tale complete with backdrops, trees, a castle and the dwarf's house, and it will last just over an hour.  Look for the banners and signs, and be sure to bring blankets and lawn chairs to sit on.  The production will continue each Wednesday in a different city park through July 7 (see schedule below).

Children's Theater in the Park was coordinated by Tim McIntire, President of CATS Theater, with funding from local pediatricians Dr. Diane McIntire and Dr. Steve Brown, in order to bring the magic of theater to children in the Lubbock area.  In addition, this production has provided opportunities for local kids to experience first hand the excitement and hard work that goes into putting on live theater.

"Snow White and the Wicked Queen" was written by Tim McIntire and is directed by Peter Contreras, director of last year's production of "King Stag".  The cast is made up 36 children and youth aging from six to sixteen.
