Reports of the West Nile Virus in Dallas County

Posted: Updated:

The mosquitoes this year have hardly been noticeable in Lubbock, which is why we have been lucky to avoid a seasonal virus that has already killed five in Dallas County. I'm talking about West Nile Virus in the Metroplex.  That mosquito borne illness has been reported in nearly 200 people according to the Dallas Morning News.

Here at home, health officials tell us there has not been any report of West Nile in Lubbock County.   That's probably because we haven't bounced back from the drought like Dallas and other areas where mosquitoes are making a comeback. That's not to say it couldn't happen here. The season is not over yet. So, if you notice any mosquitoes in your area, it's still a good idea to use a bug repellent with DEET to prevent a bite that might be infected with West Nile Virus.
