On July 10, word got out that someone used a gun to shoot out a window in the McDougal Companies building at 50th and West Loop 289. Since then, KCBD NewsChannel 11 did some checking and found there have been many other such instances.
Responding to an open records request, police provided information on 18 cases covering a one-year span. In some of the cases, windows were clearly shot out with a firearm or a bb gun. Others are less clear with phrasing such as a suspect used an, "unknown criminal instrument to break the window."
In one case someone shot the glass door at the front of City View Christian Fellowship church. In another case, the estimated damage to a laundry business in East Lubbock was $2,700. In another case police collected the bullet fragments after someone shot out a window in the Lubbock Regional MHMR building after normal business hours.
None of the reports mention injuries.
The McDougal Companies suffered an estimated $10,000 property damage from one incident of gunfire and $3,500 damage in another.
