Lubbock yesterday recorded a high temperature of 103 degrees, the 18th 100-degree day of 2012. Today temperatures will top out above the 100 degree mark across the KCBD viewing area. A Heat Advisory continues through 11 p.m. Friday for much of the area east of the Caprock, issued not just for the daytime heat, but also the overnight warmth and the area's humidity.
Today will again be as hot if not slightly hotter than yesterday. Lubbock will hit about 105 degrees, which would tie the record for the date established in 1944. This will be the 19th 100-degree day of the year.
On August 2 of last year the 100-degree day count was 35. Last year's notched 48 100-Degree-Days, the most for any year since records began in 1911 (Lubbock).
Lubbock's August 2 averages continue at 68 and 93 degrees (low and high, respectively). The August 2 record high is 105 degrees (in 1944). The record low is 54 degrees (in 1925 and 1936). As of 7:40 this morning the Lubbock airport was reporting 74 degrees as the morning low, just one degree shy of last year's 75 degrees - the warmest August 2 on record (Lubbock).
