A former candidate for mayor is trying to legalize the sale of beer and wine in portions of Lubbock. Roger Settler picked up hundreds of petition forms at the county election's office Monday afternoon. He's hoping that revenue from alcohol sales in North and East Lubbock County will benefit the local economy. "Of course there will be opposition. In any political endeavor you know that opponents will develop. However, our polls indicate that over 70% of people citywide support our efforts," said Settler.
Over 2,700 valid signatures are necessary in order to place the initiative on the ballot.
