City now owns what used to be Tubbs Elementary School

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The City of Lubbock owns what used to be Tubbs Elementary School in the 3300 block of Bates Street. Lubbock ISD closed Tubbs a little more than a year ago and recently the building was demolished except for the gymnasium.

Last week, the City Council approved paying LISD $53,652 for the deed.

Councilman Victor Hernandez said Sunday on his Facebook page, "The City of Lubbock's plan is to incorporate the use of the gym with the city staff and programming currently in place at Maggie Trejo Supercenter."

The Supercenter is nearby in the 3200 block of Amherst Street.
