1 killed, 2 injured in head-on collision

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Three people were in critical condition Sunday night after a Chevy pickup ended up on the wrong side of the road and hit another car head on.

Police say around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at Southeast Loop 289 and 4000 East Slaton, a black Chevy pickup was driving westbound in the eastbound lane into oncoming traffic.

The truck approached a black Honda and both swerved in the same direction off the road - hitting head-on in the grass median.

The driver of the truck, Jose Marmolejo Jr. of Lubbock, was transported to the hospital by Aerocare in critical condition.

Two people from the car, both from Houston, were transported by ambulance. Passenger Laura Beth Botkin, 27, died from her injuries and driver Jonathan Runnels, 26, is listed in critical condition.

Police say they believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

We'll continue updating this story as details become available.
