Beware of scam targeting Atmos Customers

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Atmos Energy warns customers of a scam that targets the utility company's customers.  A statement on the Atmos website says the scam artist "promises federal stimulus money for utility bills in exchange for a customer's personal information."

It also says the scam provides a bank routing number with money to pay past due bills.  "However, there is no such program and customers should never give personal information to anyone who is not an authorized agent of any utility," Atmos says.

Atmos first raised a public alert back in July.  It's now being repeated on the company's payment web page.  The first public statement said, "The President of the United States is not going to pay your utility bill."
