Tax hike to be subject of Lubbock County public hearing

Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock County residents can speak for or against a proposed property tax hike next week. The county will hold the hearing on August 22, 10 am on the fifth floor of the courthouse.

Commissioners gave tentative approval of 34.6477 cents per $100 valuation which is increase of almost 2 cents.  At the same time, the valuation of an average county residence is going up from $108,953 this year to $110,200 in the coming tax year. The increased rate and valuation mean a property tax increase of more than $22 for the average homeowner, not including possible increases from other taxing entities such as the City of Lubbock.

A second public hearing will be August 27, 2012 at 10:00 am, also on the fifth floor of the courthouse.
