Lubbock's Paul Springer is the General Manager at Zach's Club. A former World Champion power lifter, Springer trains people daily to get in shape. However, what happened 17 years ago today on August 15, 1995 is something he'd like to keep on the down low.
"I kind of kept it in the vaults, but a lot of people find it on YouTube," said Springer.
Back on August 15th, 1995 in Las Vegas on national TV, Paul Springer made his pro boxing debut fighting Butterbean, the king of the 4 rounders. Springer, with zero experience, took the fight to the 420-pound Butterbean but was knocked out in 52 seconds.
"My relatives were watching on TV and it was over before the pizza came," said Springer.
Springer hopes his years of power lifting overshadow that one day seventeen years ago when on 5 days notice, he fought Eric "Butterbean" Esch.
