You might think your kids are still wrapped up in summer fun, but he or she might be getting anxious already about going to school in a few weeks. Especially if your child is starting a new school, whether it is kindergarten, middle, or high school, you may want to start preparing them now.
Kids everywhere get nervous before the first day of school. With all of the excitement, for some children anxiety can take the fun out of the back-to-school experience. Anxiety is all about worrying about the future, feelings of uncertainty, uneasiness, mild fear, not knowing or understanding what is taking place.
The key to helping with back-to-school anxiety is preparation. Talk to your child about the transition. What will happen at school? Who will their teacher be? Take your child to their new school to see it firsthand. Meet their teacher at the school's orientation. Prepare them for the changes. Do not wait until the day before school to prepare them for the upcoming daily changes.
