Gov. Perry wins fDi Magazine's 2012 Governor's Award

From Office of the Governor:

AUSTIN – Texas' pro-business approach continues to receive national accolades, and fDi Magazine is the latest organization to take notice by awarding Gov. Rick Perry with its inaugural Governor's Award 2012. The award is given to the governor most successful in attracting new investments to their state.

"I am proud of our state's accomplishments and honored to receive this award," Gov. Perry said. "I will remain committed to upholding principles, like low taxes, restrained spending, reasonable regulations and a fair legal system, that have made Texas the best state in the nation to live, work, raise a family and start a business."

The award was decided by a compilation of greenfield investment data from fDi Markets as well as a survey that asked state governors about their strategies for attracting businesses with the answers judged by fDi Magazine's editorial team. Editors attribute Gov. Perry's win to his business-friendly approach to running the state, which has helped Texas create more than 550,000 new jobs between July 2009 and July 2012, and his goal to make Texas the most pro-investment state in the U.S.

Texas continues to be a national economic leader according to numerous outlets including CNBC, and for eight straight years, Chief Executive Magazine's survey of CEOs. In the last ten years, Texas has generated nearly 1.4 million new jobs – more than three times the number of any other state – kept unemployment below the national average for 66 straight months, and has seen a surge in a wide variety of sectors, from energy to information technology to biotechnology.
