Overnight lightning sparks wildfires near Pep

Posted: Updated:
PEP, TX (KCBD) -

Last night's storms are being blamed for several wildfires on the South Plains.

Lightning is believed to have sparked three wildfires last night, just northwest of Pep, near the Lamb and Hockley County line. The fires forced the evacuation of at least three homes, but no homes were damaged by the flames.  At least one of the fires came within 150 feet of a house.

Volunteer firefighters from five departments - Levelland, Littlefield, Whiteface, Amherst, Sudan - responded to the fires. There were no reports of injuries.
