The Grapevine Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own on Saturday.
Grapevine Police say that 34 year-old officer Darren Glenn Medlin, who was born in Lubbock, was struck by a suspected drunk driver overnight. Police say Medlin stopped a motorist and was outside his vehicle when he was struck and killed instantly.
The driver who struck Medlin was being held on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter. Officer Medlin is the first police officer killed in the line of duty since the Grapevine department was founded in 1956.
