Emily Ehrle connected on 10 kills and Texas Tech continued its undefeated run by sweeping Texas-Pan American, 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-21), Friday afternoon in the Lonestar Showdown opener at the United Spirit Arena.
After going 4-0 the previous weekend at Boston College, the Red Raiders (5-0) left little doubt early thanks to a quick lead in the first that they would carry into the rest of the match.
Tech's five-match winning streak to start the season is its longest since the 2003 team opened with eight-straight victories.
"It was nice to get more physical and insert our presence to finish the match on a positive note," Tech head coach Don Flora said. "It was good to see a lot of different people contribute lineup wise as well. We'll look to do the same later this evening."
Aubree Piper added eight kills from the middle for the Red Raiders, while Breeann David and Miara Cave each added four of their own for a balanced Tech attack that saw 10 different players register a kill offensively.
Emily Ruetter recorded 35 assists and six digs for another solid performance at setter. Rachel Brummitt also posted 12 digs in her fifth-straight match in double digits.
Haley Durham and Krysta Freitas led UTPA with eight and seven kills each. The Broncs wrapped the match only hitting .102 as a team as opposed to Tech's .278 average.
The Red Raiders and San Jose State are scheduled for a 6 p.m. first serve later this evening at the United Spirit Arena.
