Fire brought a terrible end to the 57-year-old church that stood proudly in the small town of Brownfield.
"I've been a member since I was a sophomore in high school," says church secretary, Brenda Howard.
It was more than a place of worship, it was practically a land mark full of beauty and memories.
"My husband was baptized in this church, all 3 of my children have been baptized in this church, my son in law and just a couple of years ago my dad so it's the memories that hurt but as you're watching it burn down you realize God's got a plan," says Howard.
And members are making plans of their own. Just the day after the church was destroyed members already have a back up plan in place for the next year or two services will be held just across the street in the Family Life Center.
"We're fortunate to have a place where we can go ahead and meet here and continue," says member Tommie Hicks.
Just as quickly as the church was destroyed, members say the community reached out just as rapidly to help.
"What's amazed me is how people have called me here and at home expressing sorrow," says preacher, Bob Reynolds.
"People have been coming off the road and stopping by and telling us they'll pray for us," says Howard.
And as she watches what's left of her office burn to the ground, it's the generosity of others that is helping her take steps towards building a new one.
"My church office was the last thing burning over there right now as you can see I've been given note pads, pens, pencils first aid kits tablets paper everything I need," says Howard.
As the church smolders to its end, members say this fire fueled faith.
"We've all gotten close together through this," says Howard.
And good will prevail.
"I think God will turn this into something great I don't know what but we'll come out stronger closer together more united, realizing what really matters in life," says Reynolds.
Fire officials are still investigating the blaze.
