June Recall Round-Up

Oscillating Fans

The temperature is rising and Lubbockites are looking for a way to cool down. But some options may be hazardous. SMC Marketing is recalling more than 2 million oscillating floor fans. The electrical power cord can get caught in the fan's blade, damaging the cord and possibly igniting a fire.

The fans were sold at Home Depot stores nationwide from early 1997 through October 2001. All fans are white with the brand name, SMC on the front grill. Recalled model numbers include the SR18 and SP18 on the 18-inch pedestal floor fans. Consumers are advised to stop using the fans and return them to Home Depot for a store credit or contact SMC for instructions on receiving a refund. Wooden Swings

Before your child heads out to the backyard, check the swing set. Backyard Products is recalling 47,000 wooden swings. Thirty-one injuries have been reported because of the swings breaking off the chains. The swings were sold nationwide between December 2003 and April 2004. Consumers can contact Backyard Products for a free, in-home repair kit.

Children's Shoes

Next, check your child's footwear. Payless is recalling it's smart fit and teeny toes athletic shoes, sold from December 2003 to April 2004. Children can choke on the shoe's metal eye-let lace holder if it detaches. Model numbers affected are 31056, 31057, 31219, 32264, 32265, 33060 and 33061. Numbers can be found on a label on the shoes tongue. The shoes should be taken away from children immediately and returned to a Payless store.

Child Coats

Now for a recall that may be packed away in the closet. Old Navy is recalling it's kids, fur trim coat, fleece pullovers and quilted fur coats. All recalled garments have a clear oval shaped zipper pull and were sold in sizes six months to 4T. The zipper can detach, posing a choking hazard. Old Navy sold the products from November 2003 through May 2004 for $14 to $34. Slow Cooker

Select Brands is recalling the General Electrical Cool Touch Six Quart Slow Cooker. The heating element can drop to the bottom of the cooker and melt through the plastic shell, posing a burn hazard. The cooker has a blue ceramic bowl with a glass lid. The model number 168945 is located on the base. It was sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores from June 2003 through May 2004 for about $28. You should return the slow cooker to Wal-Mart for a full refund. You can call Wal-Mart at 1-800-876-1288 or ( click here ).

Automobile

Chrysler is recalling more than 438,000 PT Cruisers. Power steering fluid leaks could cause fires in the engine compartment. The 2001 to 2004 model years are affected by the recall. Drivers will be notified.
