11 LISD students named National Merit semifinalists

National Merit Scholarship Corporation officials recently announced the 2013 Semifinalists in the 58th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Lubbock ISD is home to 11 semifinalists, more than Abilene (3), Amarillo (4), Midland (0), Odessa (0) and San Angelo (2) combined. Of the approximate 1.5 million students taking the qualifying exam, LISD had three more students earn the prestigious designation this year than last.

The Semifinalist from Coronado High School is Taylor Reasoner. The Semifinalists from Lubbock High School are: Raleigh Anderson, Stephen Berg, Midora DuBose, Christine Kobza, Alexander Martinelli, Waverly Roeger, Bethany Rolan, Ruvinee Senadheera, Samuel Whittlesey and Yu Tong Zhang.

National Merit Semifinalists have the opportunity to continue in the competition for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $32 million, that will be offered next spring.
