A heartwarming homecoming for a Lubbock Marine and his son

Thursday morning a Waters Elementary student received a special surprise - a heartwarming homecoming from his stepfather.

What seemed like forever – Marine Corporal Anthony Limon waited anxiously in the school hallway just outside his son Jordan's classroom. Carrying a small teddy bear along with red, white and blue balloons, he took his place at the doorway, trying to spot his son sitting at the desk.

As he walked into the room, his 8-year-old son jumped from his chair and wrapped his arms around the stepfather he hadn't seen since the beginning of this year.

"Every time I come home, it is usually for a few weeks, and this time I don't ever have to leave again," Cpl. Limon said. "I completed my five years of active duty service. I just wanted him to know I don't have to leave anymore."

For more than half of Jordan's life, his stepdad has served in the Marines. He just finished a deployment from Afghanistan where he worked on aircraft.

While thousands of miles away from home, it was his family that kept him going.

"Seeing him in his football uniform, that definitely helped time in Afghanistan go by quicker," he said.

Jordan's days of missing his stepdad will now be a thing of the past. With tears welling up in his eyes, Jordan buried his face in his stepdad's uniform looking forward to future memories.

"Finally I get to have father-son time. You don't have to miss me anymore," Cpl. Limon told his son.
