Lotto Reaches All-Time High

The Lotto Texas has reached an all-time high: $147 million. Your odds of winning are 1 in 47 million, but that didn't slow down millions of millionaire hopefuls.

Saturday night's record lotto prize has attracted over 30,000 ticket sales per minute, at King's Food and Gas ticket sales are at their highest.

Right now, it's really good to be a Texan, and it's even better to be King's Food and Gas.

"In Lubbock County, we're the #1 seller. We're the top dog!" says Robert Ramirez, owner, King's.

The chance to win $147 million keeps people lining up for tickets at King's. The sales volume means the odds are good that someone somewhere will win.

"We're gonna have a winner eventually and maybe it'll be tonight," says Ramirez.

"The big one is mine tonight!" says Lester "Coach" Brown, lotto player.

Lester Brown's friends call him Coach because he likes to win. On Saturday, he had wisdom on playing the lotto.

"I always make sure I don't overspend what I won, that's my game," says Brown.

What he means is that he has a certain budget that he spends weekly on the lottery and saves most of his winnings.

"The money I have left I buy me a lottery ticket, and that way I don't go in the hole, been lucky so far," says Coach.

But Coach says you shouldn't put the lottery at the top of your list.

"I wouldn't advise anybody to play the lottery if you need to spend that money some other place," says Brown.

So, the Coach ends up with 40 tickets and joins the rest of the state for the big game.

"I think everybody in Texas is going to be holding a ticket somewhere," says Ramirez.

By the way, our Lotto Texas jackpot is the highest in the nation. And if no one wins on Saturday, Wednesday's estimated jackpot will be $162 million.
